Stack'em High

Over the years it has become customary to place an autopilot at the bottom of the radio stack. Since flying an aircraft requires constant attention from the pilot in every aspect of flight, the placement of the avionics equipment plays an important role. One of the main reasons for having an autopilot is to reduce the pilot's workload. If the autopilot is placed high in the stack we are helping them accomplish their goal by increasing the visibility of the unit. As well, placing the autopilot high in the stack often reduces the need for our optional remote annunciator. Two systems that are often placed high in the stack, the ADF and Transponder, are not used as frequently as the autopilot during flight. Both instruments can be placed lower in the stack without reducing the utility of either system. So before you install your next Fifty Five X carefully consider the placement of the system within the stack.
