We Get Letters!

"I can't tell you how much I appreciated the S-TEC hand-holding with my autopilot problem...

The real problem with the autopilot was that it had been so reliable for the last 10 years, I had filed away the drawings and forgotten the installation by the time I needed to know all that again.

The previous turn coordinator - for most of its short life - was 99% reliable, with the 1% failures just at the wrong time. When it finally obliged by becoming 1% operational with 99% down-time, it made for easy trouble-shooting and gave us 50 hours of good hand-flying practice! For the four hours that we have used the autopilot with the new turn coordinator, it has resumed its old 100% reliability."

"I would like to take this opportunity to commend several people who recently worked on my 1965 Comanche 260.

I had experienced some problems with the S-TEC 60 autopilot and had flown to Mineral Wells in order to have it repaired. Upon my arrival on January 10, I was put in touch with Scott Howard who immediately looked at the aircraft and determined what course of action should be taken. Upon removal of the control head and computer, I accompanied Scott to the repair building where in very short order, the problem was identified and repairs were begun. I believe the technician's name was Kenny Poyner and he and Scott were more than patient with all of my questions and probably interference!

During this time, Scott suggested that an update be performed on the autopilot in order to improve performance and as per my request, quickly provided me with an estimate of the cost of the repair and updates. Upon the reinstallation of the autopilot and subsequent flight, I am happy to report that it now performs better than when new! Even more so, this was accomplished at a very reasonable price and amount of time. As soon as circumstances will allow, I will be back for an upgrade to the 60-2.
