WHAT KIND OF PILOT BUYS AN S-TEC?
The pilot that likes extraordinary aircraft
by Fred Kattermann , President, Islip Avionics, Inc. and Max Baumgartner, Avionics Technician, Islip Avionics, Inc.
The Paris Jet, shown below, has a complete new custom instrument panel including an S-TEC System 55 autopilot with optional altitude pre-selector, Sandel SN-3308 EHSI, Garmin GNS-430 and Honeywell KX-155.
This is a great airplane to fly. It is a "Pilots Airplane." It is predictable and quite stable. The S-TEC autopilot and altitude pre-selector greatly reduce the pilot workload, especially during long trips, and during single pilot IFR. We are planning to display the Paris Jet at Sun-N-Fun 2000 for the first part of the week.
The Morane Saulnier model MS-760B-II, commonly know as the Paris Jet, was built between 1957 and 1970. This airplane is serial number 2 of the Paris II Version. Many of these airplanes, including this one, were used as trainers by airlines in Europe. There are approximately 18 of these unique aircraft in flying condition in the US. There are several more undergoing restoration.
The airplane is certified by the FAA in the utility catagory. It is a 4 place, twin turbojet, pressurized airplane. Cruise speed at 25,000 feet is 300 knots. Maximum range with reserves is 800 NM. Fuel burn in cruise is about 120 gallons per hour.
As a matter of interest, the owner of this aircraft also owns and flys a Grumman Mallard.
