S-TEC Autopilot to fly the Lockheed Electra 10E on
World Flight '97 - the recreation of Amelia Earhart's Journey
Linda Finch and her Lockheed Electra 10E
When Linda Finch departs Oakland, CA in March in her Lockheed Electra 10E to re-create and complete the circumnavigation of the earth started by Amelia Earhart in 1937, her co-pilot will be an S-TEC Model 50 Flight Control System supplied to the expedition by S-TEC.Linda's Electra 10E, one of only two remaining of the 15 originally produced, is powered by Pratt & Whitney Wasp Engines. Pratt & Whitney is the primary sponsor of the project. The Electra has spent the last several years being remanufactured under the watchful eye of the pilot and will be very close to the original aircraft, with the noteable exception of the avionics suite. The S-TEC 50, the most popular of all S-TEC autopilots, was chosen because of its reputation for excellent performance and reliability.
Of all the recent around the world flights, the flight in the Lockheed is closest to aviation enthusiasts' hearts. It will be watched not only by the aviation community but by school children all over the world. Linda and World Flight 1997 have integrated an excellent educational program into the project; and as she travels the globe, she'll be reporting her progress to students via the Internet.
