As a kit builder, you and your airplane are special to Meggitt / S-TEC and we have a program designed to specifically meet your needs. For some of the more popular "Meggitt / S-TEC Approved" kit airplane aircraft, we have already established flight control system kits. If we don't have an "Approved" kit for your aircraft, we'll work with you on an individual basis and consider developing a kit for you. This means, whatever you're building, we will work with you to try and get an S-TEC Autopilot, the finest in Flight Control Systems, in your aircraft.
Features of the "Meggitt / S-TEC Approved" Kit Airplane program :
- You can purchase your S-TEC Autopilot from your local Meggitt / S-TEC authorized dealer, or in some cases, your kit manufacturer. They will be available to support your efforts throughout the construction of your airplane.
- You can buy the components you need as you need them, rather than investing in a complete system at the outset. Our program is designed to help you avoid your funds sitting on the shelf collecting dust. For example, the first component you would normally need is the Roll Servo and cable to allow you to install the servo in the wing as you assemble it. The cable included allows you to route it into the fuselage where it can be connected later. When the complete system is ordered we'll send you a harness for your aircraft.
- We encourage you NOT TO ORDER your instrumentation until late in your build schedule. Gyroscopic instruments have a shelf life and therefore need to be installed in your aircraft as close to the date of the first flight as possible.
- Your Meggitt / S-TEC warranty will be started on the date of the first system flight, rather than the date you buy the first component, giving you unparalleled protection and support for the full life of our standard autopilot warranty period.
If you are building an aircraft which is not on our "Approved" list, we'll work very closely with you to get you an Meggitt / S-TEC Flight Control System.
First call our Sales Department to determine which autopilot offers the features you want. Next, talk to our Flight Engineering Department to discuss the Technical aspects of making that system work in your aircraft. Once we determine the system will work, we'll advise you the cost to install the system. Our goal is to keep this expense as low as possible.
In order for this to work as efficiently as possible, we will need some information from you when you talk to Flight Engineering:
- We need to know the type of control system you will utilize, push rod, cable or a combination of both.
- We need to know the full travel from "stop to stop" of the control system so we can establish the servo RPM and system gain levels.
- We need to know the electrical system voltage of your aircraft. We need to know the heading system or HSI you plan to use, if it is other than an S-TEC system.
Buying your flight control system from the company that has the needs of the kitbuilder in mind, Meggitt / S-TEC of Mineral Wells, Texas, is the best investment you can make.
